Big Hero 6

2 min read
I saw a movie! In the theatre! Before it was already a month old!

All three of these things are unusual for me.

(Also, I'm not dead!)

Anyway, I really liked "Big Hero 6". Quite a lot. Not only did I cry like a little girl at the ending - and notably, my own little girl D did NOT cry, so huh, what's up with that - but also, OMG you guys, I totally fell in love with Honey Lemon.  She reminded me a lot of Beth, only not really. Only YES!  But still not really.

Initially I really did think so - her intro totally had me. Cute girl, skinny and tall, big glasses and INCREDIBLY enthusiastic about SCIENCE stuff!!  But, there are major differences, including that she's still very energetically cheerful and outgoing even when NOT sciencing (Beth is, but not much with strangers because she tends to be so crippled by shyness, which obviously Honey Lemon doesn't seem to worry about), and also, Honey is majorly girly. Which I like, don't get me wrong, but Beth isn't so much.  But, then I realized, she's got these little synthetic bomb things that do different things... explode into puffy matter, make ice, make smoke... Which is actually VERY close to something I wrote Beth making for Darkwing in "High, Dry, and Flooded" way back in like 2008.  So then I went back to "Except YES!" LOL.

Anyway, egotistical associations with my own fan character from another series aside, oh, I really did like it. I really felt those emotions. And it's honestly funny, and really good action too. Plus some great actors! I love James Cromwell, and Scott Adsit - wow! I always felt he was underused on "30 Rock" - Pete never had enough to do - so having him play the secondary lead was lovely. :)  Yay! Hooray for EVERYONE!

So in conclusion, see "Big Hero 6". Don't be a drag like I usually am! See a movie! (I see literally 2 movies every year in a theatre.  I'm not joking, that is absolutely how many I see. Typically it's one with the kids, and one for my or Dan's birthday. And that is it.)

Uh so. How you been?

OC Feature

5 min read
I think this might inspire me to stay on DA a bit more consistently for a while!  After :icontophatturtle: was kind enough to add me onto her list, even though I totally cheated my way onto it ;) I am keeping the other half of the bargain and puttin' it up here!

The first ten people who comment on this journal will get one of their characters featured here, and I will say what I like about them. You can choose which OC, or just let me choose whoever I find in your gallery. [You can comment and opt out of this if you are not inclined to play, just let me know.]

But this means that if you comment, you must do the same, with me in the first slot.  The idea is not to get a free feature, it's to spread art around.

If you've already done this, as several people have, well... I guess I'll exempt you, but I'm late to the party, so I probably won't get a chance to be on many lists. :) However, if you did this and still have slots open let me know and I"ll pop onto there or something. :D

Edit: So here we go, starting it up on 12/26... This is not covering all the people who have poked in for this so far, but I'm getting started with the time I've got :)  More updates will come!

Anyway!

1) :icontophatturtle:
I'm going to stick with this particular profile and go with Edith Burke, who is an active OC and quintessential for Froth/Turtle (now I don't know what to call her, lol) in that she's really well-developed with a long history and a strong personality that comes through in all the art.
Edith Burke by TopHatTurtle
I like also how Edith can be folded into various different versions of her fandom, ie, Great Mouse Detective (she fits in perfectly there) and also Froth's BBC Sherlock/GMD crossover, as Eddie LeStrade. Plus the new version in the 40s. :D  So I'm really not at all up on GMD fandom, know nobody from it, but the thing with Froth's OCs is that they're always so engaging and strong that they don't rely upon the fandom or on characters I am not familiar with in order to enjoy them. So there! :)

And now on to the rest!

2) :iconkatrinagn:
I got to pick the character (as with most of these entries, lol) so I went with the one I know the best (again, as with most of these entries).
<da:thumb id="308638375"/>
Amelia McDuck, the estranged daughter of Scrooge McDuck, who has a catburglar alterego called Tailfeathers.  I like the character because she has this very cultivated cute persona which, it turns out, is entirely a mask and she's actually very sarcastic underneath it. But she dresses all in pink with pearls and bow... love it. XD  The whole concept is a good one for the Darkwingverse!

3) :iconduckfiend:
I asked if there was a particular OC she wanted discussed, and I didn't hear back, and I don't want to hold up too much on this esp. since Julie's account might be gone soon based on the journal I just read :( SO I hope she doesn't mind me pouncing on Tegwen! (Hahaha.)
<da:thumb id="357959143"/>
I think Tegwen has been around as long as Beth, which is saying something :D She has an AMAZING backstory with years and years put into it, and not surprisingly, a really strong character with a ton of depth and realism no matter how outrageous or extreme her experiences in the story may be.  Tegwen goes through A LOT and her personality just shows a lot of thought and strength.  I particularly like that she's got a comical side and, in spite of her physical attributes, is more of a klutz/how-did-I-get-into-this-mess character type than a super-confident don't-screw-with-me type.  It just makes her all the more endearing. :)

My only other request; if we don't know each other all that well, that is totally fine and you can still participate, but don't be upset or offended if I don't know the character you choose all that well yet, OK? I'll do my best! ^_^

1. I posted art! (Just sketches, and I did most of them prior to today; nothing to get too excited about, except that I posted 3 new pics for the first time in nearly a year.)

2. I wrote a big ol' chunk of fanfic!  Okay okay - it's not a big ol' chunk.  It's... 18 paragraphs, and more than half is dialogue, meaning the paragraphs are brief.  However, for a year or so I've been writing only 2-3 sentences before blanking, and I haven't been able to write any DWD for more than 18 months. SO THIS IS HUGE.

3. I cleared out a bunch of old journal entries! ...I still have like 100+.  This isn't really actual progress. :P

4. BUT HEY!  I did this stuff and I thought, that's it, I'm'a gonna write a journal entry too. Because the last was from May, and although I am not officially "back" because I'll probably vanish in and out again as I've been doing...  I miss you guys.  I think about you a lot and I miss drawing, writing, and having fun on DA. <3

I owe lots of people art. I have to find the inspiration and motivation. I check in but I have become a master of "I'll look these over more later!". Sigh.  I miss EVERYONE.  Yes, even you, I seriously am talking about YOU.  No, don't say "but she doesn't mean me" because YES I DO. :P

Happy holidays y'all. :)

I'm going to go through what I've got piled up and respond to five relatively recent things from each.  If I don't respond, I'm sorry, I have literally 1800 deviations to go through (that does include journals, but I'm not sure by how much since I haven't exactly counted) and I just have to zoom through them or else I will keep putting this off.  (There will be a couple of exceptions made in the cases of web comics I technically follow but am hugely behind on, like Keeping Up With Thursday - I'm not deleting any pages of that. Side art though, sigh, unfortunately another story.)

So I'm starting tonight, though I won't finish tonight most likely. :)  Still, here goes nothing!
